NEPOOL, or the New England Power Pool, is a voluntary association of market participants operating in the six-state New England region. This organization was created to streamline and facilitate transactions and operations within the power supply market.
The NEPOOL Generation Information System (GIS) issues and tracks certificates for all MWh of generation and load produced in the ISO New England region. ISO-NE, or ISO New England, was established in 1997 by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as a replacement for NEPOOL. It continues to operate alongside NEPOOL to manage the region's power system and administer its wholesale electricity markets.
